Jenny by Liz...
I wondered what would make me fall in love,
please me with a single
glance, be soft beneath my hand.
Able to entrance, yet not a supplicant, not easily won,
insistent upon its wants -
temperamental,
greedy for me to look, hold,
embrace;
That would manipulate and tease,
dance down a corridor,
inviting me to chase,
slip round a corner,
tantalising,
just to make the bounce
surprising.
And when I'm inattentive
reach out with pitiful,
pleading paws;
Or cry in aching misery before closed doors
and when opened rush through
in gleeful triumph,
Only to be trapped when shut behind,
yet waiting there, quite
content in the darkness
for me to come, to find.
And when I do, emerging like a prisoner from a dungeon
at last unchained,
With a glance that says, "you forgot me...didn't you",
as if offended, pained.
And so I have it - simple, soft, uncomplicated -
Existing purely in the present tense - nothing past or future dated;
So blissfully NOT human - one cannot sadden, disappoint, upset -
Ignorant of insults, obligations - and no memories of the birthdays
that I forget.
